A reason

A three-step plan. It works in any city — with or without an activity on the map.

  1. Find an open improv class for beginners at a theatre studio. No experience needed, just comfortable shoes.

  2. In every exercise answer “yes, and…”: build on the other idea instead of arguing with it. Awkwardness is material too.

  3. After class, invite your scene partners for tea and replay the silliest scene of the night.

If you come on your own

Exercises run in pairs and circles with partners swapping, so by the break everyone knows everyone’s name.

First line

So the chat doesn’t stop at “hi”.

To one person

Shall we try an open improv class? You can’t get it wrong there: every line counts as a gift. It’s less scary to start as a pair.

To a group chat

Who’s up for an open improv class? We learn to say “yes, and…” and laugh at ourselves. No experience needed.

When

Up to three options make it easier to choose. Times are local to the place you meet.

Option 1
0 of 60

A place or a neighbourhood. A home address doesn’t belong in the link.

Everyone may bring along one person they know.

Meet safely

For this idea

You can skip any exercise without explaining. If something feels wrong, tell the host: a scene can stop at any moment.

Before any meeting

  • Meet somewhere public the first time — and in daylight, if that feels calmer.
  • Plan your own way there and back. There is no need to share your home address.
  • Let someone close know where you will be and who with: send them the plan.

If you go as a group

  • Don’t keep pairing up with each other on stage: scenes with new people turn out the funniest.
  • Agree in advance how everyone is getting home — especially if the evening ends late.

Talk

Three questions from the “Honestly?” deck. Any of them can be skipped.

  1. What small signs tell you that you can be yourself around someone?

  2. What does it mean to you to really get along with someone?

  3. What gives you the courage to start something new?
