Board games

Board game night

A box, a pot of tea and rules explained in ten minutes. Losing is a reason for a rematch, not a grudge.

A reason

A three-step plan. It works in any city — with or without an activity on the map.

  1. Choose a game with short rules. For a first meeting, a game café or a board game club; home can come later.

  2. Play the first game open-handed: show your cards and give each other tips. The second one is for real.

  3. End with a rematch or pick a game for next time — that way the evening gets a sequel.

First line

So the chat doesn’t stop at “hi”.

To one person

Board games? We can play against each other or together against the box. My victory dance is part of the rules.

To a group chat

Board game night — who’s in? I’ll bring a couple of games with short rules. Bring friends: the more players, the livelier the debates about whose turn it is.

Invite

An invitation link: they pick a time and answer in a couple of taps.

Format
When

Up to three options make it easier to choose. Times are local to the place you meet.

Option 1
0 of 60

A place or a neighbourhood. A home address doesn’t belong in the link.

Meet safely

For this idea

If you’ve only just met, play at a game café rather than at home. Agree on an end time in advance: games run long.

Before any meeting

  • Meet somewhere public the first time — and in daylight, if that feels calmer.
  • Plan your own way there and back. There is no need to share your home address.
  • Let someone close know where you will be and who with: send them the plan.

If you go as a group

  • In a bigger group, go for a co-op or team game: beginners play alongside people who know it, and the rules scare nobody.
  • Agree in advance how everyone is getting home — especially if the evening ends late.

Talk

Three questions from the “Honestly?” deck. Any of them can be skipped.

  1. What does your perfect free hour look like?

  2. Which of your habits surprises people at first and then makes sense?

  3. How do you like to celebrate small shared wins?
