Badminton

The shuttle is on your side

A shared record instead of a score. A smile counts as a great shot.

A reason

A three-step plan. It works in any city — with or without an activity on the map.

  1. Find a court or a flat patch of park and agree in advance who brings the rackets and the shuttle.

  2. Try to keep the shuttle in the air for 10 hits in a row — you are on the same team.

  3. Take a break, drink some water and swap the record for a conversation.

First line

So the chat doesn’t stop at “hi”.

To one person

Badminton? I suggest we play for a shared record. No penalty push-ups for misses.

To a group chat

Badminton, two against two — who’s in? Points only for good-looking rallies, and the side with fewer points picks where we get tea afterwards.

Invite

An invitation link: they pick a time and answer in a couple of taps.

Format
When

Up to three options make it easier to choose. Times are local to the place you meet.

Option 1

A place or a neighbourhood. A home address doesn’t belong in the link.

Meet safely

For this idea

Pick level ground with no stones or roots: turning an ankle is easier than missing the shuttle. Bring water and warm up first.

Before any meeting

  • Meet somewhere public the first time — and in daylight, if that feels calmer.
  • Plan your own way there and back. There is no need to share your home address.
  • Let someone close know where you will be and who with: send them the plan.

If you go as a group

  • With four, reshuffle the pairs every ten minutes, so everyone plays with everyone and against everyone.
  • Agree in advance how everyone is getting home — especially if the evening ends late.

Talk

Three questions from the “Honestly?” deck. Any of them can be skipped.

  1. Which skill would you get at the press of a magic button?

  2. What weekend tradition do you already have — or are about to start?

  3. How do you like to celebrate small shared wins?
