For two
Ice skating
An ice rink and a thermos
Ice, lights and a thermos of tea. Holding the rail is no shame; holding on to each other is up to you.
- For two
- Two plus two
- 60–90 min
- Low cost
- Outdoors
- Best in winter
A reason
A three-step plan. It works in any city — with or without an activity on the map.
Check the rink’s opening hours and whether it rents skates. Fill a thermos with tea and bring warm gloves.
Start with a slow lap along the rail. Give every fall a figure-skating name: a “triple thermos” counts.
Warm up with tea on a bench and decide: another lap, a hot dinner nearby or a different rink next time.
First line
So the chat doesn’t stop at “hi”.
To one person
Ice skating? I’ll bring a thermos of tea. Falls count as figures, and we’re both allowed to hold the rail.
To a group chat
Skating, four of us: everyone brings a friend, I bring the thermos. Whoever never falls picks where we warm up afterwards.
Invite
An invitation link: they pick a time and answer in a couple of taps.
The reply comes to you as a message — the site never sees it.
Meet safely
For this idea
If you fall, tuck your fingers in at once: other people’s blades are passing. A helmet suits beginners; dry spare socks suit everyone.
Before any meeting
- Meet somewhere public the first time — and in daylight, if that feels calmer.
- Plan your own way there and back. There is no need to share your home address.
- Let someone close know where you will be and who with: send them the plan.
If you go as a group
- With four, swap skating partners every couple of laps: everyone gets to talk to everyone, and the thermos goes round.
- Agree in advance how everyone is getting home — especially if the evening ends late.
Talk
Three questions from the “Honestly?” deck. Any of them can be skipped.
What small thing makes your day better?
Which smell takes you somewhere else in an instant?
What weekend tradition do you already have — or are about to start?
